When shooting your gun you always want you bbs to feed well, shoot straight, and consistently hit long range targets. You can’t achieve those goals with a cheap, bad quality bb. With the goals of feeding well, and shooting consistently in mind, we should consider what makes a bb a good bb or a bad bb as well as what bbs are the best to get.

First, a good airsoft bb is always seamless. You never want to settle for one of the cheap containers of bbs that you can find at your local Walmart. Those bbs are made in a mold, and the two halfs are stuck together. This becomes evident when inspecting the bbs as they have a seam running around the bb. What this means is the bb is not going to have much structural integrity, and when shot out of a higher powered gun they can and most likely will shatter inside your gun. That is very bad and can break the gun. Seamless bbs are made in a one piece mold, they are much stronger and will not shatter. Always use seamless bbs.
The second thing that you want to be looking for is a bb that has a very good surface finish. Going back to your walmart bbs, you can see that they claim to be “double polished for better shots.” While this might be true, polishing isn’t everything. If you simply look at the surface of a cheap bb you will find chips, dents, and sometimes even burrs hanging off of it. Any surface inconsistency will cause the bb to deviate from the intended flight path causing inaccurate shots. You need to be looking for bbs that are well made, as well as highly polished. Only buy your bbs from trusted brands, and at airsoft specific shops. The last major thing to consider when purchasing bbs is their weight. Because of the way an airsoft gun works by applying backspin to the bb, weight is an important factor. If you have a heavier bb, you can apply more spin resulting in a farther shot. Now, that does not always mean that you just get the heaviest bb you can find. You have to be aware of how powerful your gun is, as well as how much hop your gun can apply. Generally stock guns are not able to hop anything over a 0.30g-0.32g bb. However, this is easily fixed by installing a new hop up bucking. We recommend a new bucking and barrel as the first upgrade you should do in almost any gun. Generally we recommend 0.25g or 0.28g bbs for most stock guns. But higher end ones you will want to use 0.30g to 0.32g bbs in. For high end builds you will want to be running 0.32g up to 0.40g bbs.
